Underwater greatness

Today I was tEssex School of Diving - more dolphin than shark!reated, that’s the only word for it, to some exceptional service.  After a gap of over 10 years I’m taking up Scuba diving again and needed to attend a refresher course.  After a written exam to assess how much I’d remembered, quite a lot in fact, we went down to the pool for the practical – about an hour doing various drills at the bottom of the diving pit.

And it was here that the service quality became obvious.  With two very rusty students, Rick our instructor showed the utmost patience, was utterly clear in what he wanted us to do, demonstrated the techniques before we had a go ourselves and then roundly congratulated us upon successful completion.

With Rick’s patience, things came back quickly.

Nothing difficult there, you may think.  Except this was mostly done at 3 metres (10ft) below the surface, where it’s all hand signals and taking things very, very calmly.  At any depth, if things go wrong it can be serious….very quickly.

I emerged into the night feeling utterly elated and reassuringly confident.

Well done Essex School of Diving.  You promise “You’ll be in safe hands”, I’d say you’re certainly living inside your brand.
