Bionic leg’s a success
After many years’ running my left Achilles tendon decided it had taken too much punishment and tore.
I sat in the hospital getting ever gloomier. Months in a plaster cast, forced inactivity, unable to drive, shower, walk, sleep.
But, not so. A quick ultrasound scan revealed the injury and the London Independent Hospital had sorted me out within a further 20 minutes. Within an hour I walked out, Achilles immobilised due to my new ‘bionic’ leg.
This is a great example of how product innovation changes the ‘old’ way of doing things. Instead of a traditional solution – plaster cast – which comprises cheap materials but requires very skilled ‘dispensing’ and imposes misery on the wearer for weeks or months there’s now a quick way to dispense and fit a solution in just 10 minutes. This is a , plastic device which immobilises the joint yet can be taken off to drive, shower, sleep. And in my case, as a triathlete, I can keep on swimming. The only downside is that it’s quite expensive at £125…but frankly, that’s more than offset by the amount of business I couldn’t have taken on and the improvement in lifestyle.
Thanks fro the device to Aircast, “Smart Technology Advanced Solutions”, and thanks to London Independent Hospital, “The Consultant’s Choice”, for using them. And good job by Dr Tom Crisp for ‘strongly advising’ I should wear the device and stop running.
They’re all living inside their brands.
